Octopath Traveler Series Surpasses 6 Million Sales
Square Enix has a new reason to celebrate its HD-2D pioneer. The publisher announced today that the Octopath Traveler series has officially surpassed 6 million lifetime sales worldwide across all platforms.
A Growing Legacy The milestone was revealed via the official Octopath Traveler X (formerly Twitter) account. The figure includes combined physical shipments and digital downloads for all entries in the franchise, which began with the original Switch exclusive in 2018.
The series has seen a steady rise in popularity since its debut:
- Octopath Traveler (2018): The game that introduced the world to “HD-2D” graphics was a critical and commercial smash, quickly clearing 1 million units before expanding to PC and other platforms.
- Octopath Traveler II (2023): Building on the first game’s foundation, the sequel garnered critical acclaim and further boosted the franchise’s reach, aided by a stint on Xbox Game Pass.
- Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent (2022): A mobile prequel that brought the lore to a wider audience.
Timing the Celebration The announcement comes hot on the heels of the release of Octopath Traveler 0, a console adaptation of the mobile prequel Champions of the Continent. Unlike its mobile counterpart, Octopath Traveler 0 removes the controversial gacha mechanics, offering a traditional, premium RPG experience.
To mark the 6 million milestone, Square Enix has rolled out significant discounts. Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are currently available at 60% off on digital storefronts, making it an ideal time for newcomers to see what the buzz is about.
With the “HD-2D” art style now a staple of Square Enix’s portfolio (powering other hits like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake), Octopath Traveler remains the trendsetter that started it all.
