Valve Discontinues Last Remaining LCD Steam Deck Model
In a move that marks the end of an era for Valve’s handheld entry, the company has officially discontinued the last remaining LCD version of the Steam Deck. A new disclaimer on the Steam store page confirms that the 256GB LCD model is no longer in production and will be gone for good once current stock depletes.

End of the Entry-Level Workhorse
The specific model in question, the Steam Deck LCD 256GB, was the final holdout of the original lineup that launched the handheld craze. While it lacked the vibrant HDR display and slightly better battery life of the newer OLED models, it served as an incredibly accessible entry point into portable PC gaming, especially with recent price drops that brought it under $400.
According to reports, the disclaimer on Valve’s store reads: “We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256 GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.” As of now, the model is already listed as sold out in the United States and in Europe, effectively closing the book on the first generation’s hardware in that region.
Focusing on OLED and Future Hardware
The discontinuation simplifies Valve’s hardware offerings, leaving the Steam Deck OLED models (512GB and 1TB) as the primary options for new buyers. This shift suggests Valve is streamlining its production lines to focus entirely on the superior OLED display technology, which has been praised for its deep blacks and efficiency.
For gamers who were hoping to snag the budget-friendly LCD model for the holidays, the window of opportunity has seemingly slammed shut. However, the move signals Valve’s confidence in its premium tier as the standard-bearer for the future of handheld gaming.
