Stardew Valley Creator Promises “Very Soon” Update on Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Stardew Valley fans eagerly awaiting the game’s arrival on Nintendo’s next-generation console finally have a glimmer of hope. Creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has broken his silence regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the beloved farming sim, promising that news is coming “very soon.”
The update comes as the year draws to a close, addressing a timeline that had left many fans wondering about the project’s status. Originally revealed in September during a Nintendo Direct, the Switch 2 version of Stardew Valley was slated for a “Fall 2025” release. With December already underway, that window has effectively passed, leading to understandable concern within the community.
Taking to social media to address the delay, Barone offered an apology to fans for the long wait and reassured them that an announcement is imminent. “I’ll announce something very soon,” Barone stated. “Sorry about the long wait.”

What to Expect from the Switch 2 Edition
While the release date remains the biggest question mark, we already know several exciting details about what the next-gen version will bring to the table. The Switch 2 edition is set to include features that will significantly enhance the gameplay experience:
- Mouse Controls: A highly requested feature for console players, offering precision similar to the PC experience.
- Expanded Multiplayer: The new version will support up to four-player split-screen and eight-player online multiplayer, doubling the previous online capacity.
- GameShare Support: In a consumer-friendly move, the game will support cross-generation play, allowing Switch and Switch 2 users to play together.
- Free Upgrade: Existing owners of the game on the original Nintendo Switch will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version.
Update 1.7 Teased
Beyond the platform-specific news, Barone also dropped a few breadcrumbs about the upcoming 1.7 content update. While keeping most cards close to his chest, he confirmed that the update will focus on expanding the social aspects of the game.
“There will be some more character/social stuff,” Barone revealed. “It’s also traditional to add a new farm type. Lots more but I don’t want to reveal much yet.”
For a game that has received free, massive content updates for nearly a decade, the promise of a new farm type and deeper character interactions suggests that Stardew Valley is far from finished.
For now, fans will have to hold tight a little longer. If Barone’s “very soon” is accurate, we may see the Switch 2 edition land—or at least get a concrete release date—before 2025 officially comes to a close.
